  • I've been thinking about the arctic biome and I can't help but think it would look weird if, say, you're going through one of the kelp forests and then suddenly there's ice everywhere.

    I've been thinking that maybe at a certain time during gameplay, winter comes and it gets colder and the arctic biome appears and then disappears in summer.

    This would add some realism and a nice change in gameplay because maybe the ocean surface water would freeze up or you would have to stay warm.

    • thats not how planitary poles work, they dont just appear then melt at the change of seasons, they might grow a bit then shrink a tiny bit but not just appear then dissapear

      I'm not an expert at globe and that seasons. But that is basically what I'm saying.

    • Now, the arctic is up north correct? now the north and south poles in real life, melt but not much due to heat. So seasons wouldnt effect it.

      I've already killed it too. It can be spawned in by debug commands. Just make sure you fix your spelling and stuff before you get the game.

    • Now, i just thought of ideas. Say Up north right? icebergs could slowly drift down, and maybe have some ore in them. its an intresting idea actually. like what kind of ore would BE in there? now i know some things on ice, but it would have to be like Titanium, Copper or Silver in my opinion

      Or life forms frozen in the ice bergs and when you break them open, you can scan them for something.

      Maybe the planet is experiencing an ice-age, mild summers and extremely cold winters

    • Now, after being gone for several days, I have some clues on what is going on. I just learned a bit of Celsius, so the water is very cold. So more likely the player landed in the middle of fall most likely, where it is a bit cooler. Or, if not, the place is already up north or south quite a bit. So the Arctic area must be by a pole.

      You learn season and north and south pole in kindergarden... Well, I learned years before that but I dunno about you.

    • The arctic biome could be the result of a massive comet crashing on the surface thousands of years before resulting in a portion of the planet to have an icy climate

    • There should only be 1 Arctic Biome, at the North/South, cuz the playable area isn't the whole planet

      I think they should make the whole planet playable eventually and have 2 arctic biomes.

      The average surface temperatur in subnautica is about 30 degrees celsius. So you probably would have to travel thousands of kilometers to get to a place where it would be cold enough

      How much is that in ferenheight?

    • It would make sense if you had to take a precursor teleporter to get there. So it would be like a completely different map, and it would have it's own void and would not connect to the rest of the map.

      30ºC = 86ºF

      And they're already dedicating 12 GB to this game, which is (I think) 3×3 kilometers. So how about no.
